A senior official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been arrested in a serious criminal case involving allegations of deception and exploitation.
In the latest development under the Mumbai Assistant Commissioner Case, Nitin Shukla (38), currently serving as Assistant Commissioner of the K-East Ward, has been taken into custody by Vikhroli Parksite Police. The arrest follows a complaint filed by a woman who accused him of engaging in a physical relationship under the false promise of marriage.
According to police sources, Shukla and the complainant came into contact while working in the Building Proposal Department in Vikhroli. Their professional interaction gradually turned into a personal relationship.
Investigators revealed that the accused allegedly told the woman that his marriage was troubled and that he was planning to separate from his wife. Based on this claim, he reportedly assured the woman that he would marry her in the future.
Trusting his assurances, the woman entered into a relationship with him. However, over time, she realized that Shukla was repeatedly avoiding the topic of marriage and had no intention of fulfilling his promise.
Feeling deceived, the woman approached the police and lodged a formal complaint, bringing the matter to light.
Based on her statement, the police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual relations obtained under false pretenses. The accused has since been arrested, and further interrogation is underway.
Officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that additional facts may emerge as the case progresses. Authorities are examining all aspects, including the nature of communication between the two and any supporting evidence.
It has also been reported that Nitin Shukla previously served as a Ward Officer in the F-North Ward before being given additional charge of the K-East Ward, where he was later appointed as a full-time Assistant Commissioner.
The case has triggered widespread discussion within municipal administrative circles, given the seniority of the official involved. Law enforcement agencies have emphasized that the matter is being investigated thoroughly from all angles.
