Chhaava Shatters Box Office Records While Battling Piracy, PM Modi Applauds Its Impact

Chhaava Continues Its Box Office Domination Amid Piracy Challenges

Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava has been setting new benchmarks at the box office while also battling piracy concerns. Despite its massive success in theatres, unauthorized copies of the film have surfaced online, prompting legal action.

Maddock Films, the production house behind Chhaava, engaged an anti-piracy agency to combat the issue. According to reports, over 1,800 illegal links have been flagged. Following a complaint by Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of August Entertainment, the South Cyber Police Station registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Copyright Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Information Technology Act to curb the film’s illegal distribution.

Chhaava Breaks Records with Unprecedented Ticket Sales

The film’s success story continues to unfold, with BookMyShow confirming an industry-first milestone. Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas at BookMyShow, announced that Chhaava has surpassed 12 million ticket sales on the platform, setting a new benchmark for Hindi cinema. This feat places it ahead of even Stree 2, which previously held the record.

A Spectacular Box Office Performance

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava brings to life the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal, alongside Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna in a pivotal role. The film, which captures the valiant Maratha ruler’s reign beginning in 1681, was released on February 14. Recognizing its historical and cultural significance, Goa and Madhya Pradesh have declared the film tax-free.

With an extraordinary response from audiences, Chhaava has crossed the ₹500 crore mark, making it Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing film to date, surpassing Uri: The Surgical Strike, Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.

PM Modi Recognizes Chhaava’s Impact

Adding to its acclaim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged Chhaava’s phenomenal success during the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi. He highlighted Maharashtra’s invaluable contribution to cinema and referenced Chhaava’s widespread popularity, remarking, “Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai.” PM Modi also credited legendary Marathi author Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava for bringing Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy to the forefront.

As Chhaava continues to dominate theatres and achieve historic milestones, its cultural and cinematic impact remains undeniable.
