In a major anti-corruption action, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in connection with a ₹4 lakh bribery case. The accused has been identified as Deputy Commissioner Lt. Col. Abhishek Kumar Mishra, posted in the Shahdara North zone.

According to officials, the arrest was made after the CBI received credible information regarding a demand for a bribe in exchange for official favors linked to the municipal licensing department. Acting swiftly, the agency registered a case and laid a trap to catch the accused.

During the operation, the CBI team allegedly caught the official red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. Initial findings suggest that another official, an accounts officer, was also involved in facilitating the illegal transaction.

Sources indicate that the bribery demand was linked to influencing administrative action concerning a license inspector, highlighting possible misuse of authority within the civic body. Investigators believe the case could uncover a wider network of corruption within the MCD’s licensing system.

The CBI has stated that further details will be revealed as the investigation progresses. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests or deeper links to systemic corruption.

This development underscores the agency’s continued crackdown on corruption in public offices, particularly within urban governance institutions, where transparency and accountability remain critical concerns.
