In a major administrative overhaul, the Mumbai Police is set to implement a large-scale restructuring of its law enforcement framework, directly impacting nearly 5 million residents across the city.
The reform, approved by the state home department, aims to modernize policing infrastructure, improve response efficiency, and address the challenges posed by rapid urban expansion.

Under the new plan:
- The number of police zones will increase from 13 to 15
- The total number of police stations will rise to 97
- Two new police zones will be created
- Four new police stations will be established

Several densely populated areas will come under new Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), changing administrative oversight for millions of citizens.
Key affected regions include:
- Ghatkopar тАУ approximately 1.3 million residents
- Tilak Nagar тАУ around 600,000 residents
- Versova тАУ about 300,000 residents
- Malad тАУ nearly 450,000 residents
Residents in these areas will now interact with newly assigned senior police officials, altering the administrative chain of command.

Eastern Suburban Zone (New Zone 7)
This newly created zone will include:
Chunabhatti, Nehru Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar, and Vinoba Bhave Nagar.
A new police station will be set up in Asalpha.
Northern Zone (New Zone 12)
This zone will cover:
Versova, Oshiwara, Amboli, Goregaon, Bangur Nagar, and Malad.
A new police station will be established in Marve.

To handle increasing population pressure, four new police stations will be established:
- Maharashtra Nagar
- Golibar
- Asalpha
- Marve
Additionally, the Airport Police Station will be dissolved, with its jurisdiction redistributed between Vile Parle and Sahar police stations.

MumbaiтАЩs population has crossed 15 million, with rapid expansion in suburban areas. Previously, some DCPs were responsible for overseeing more than 10 police stations, leading to delays in supervision and response.
This restructuring aims to reduce administrative burden and improve operational efficiency.

The government has approved 1,448 new positions to support the expanded structure.
Each new police station will include:
- 5 Police Inspectors
- 6 Assistant Inspectors
- 23 Sub-Inspectors
- 217 Constables
The financial outlay includes:
- Annual expenditure: тВ╣124.13 crore
- One-time setup cost: тВ╣7.39 crore
